SERVICES

COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAMS

We recommend scheduling an appointment once every two years to ensure your eyes are remaining healthy. If you have been diagnosed with an eye condition, however, we recommend scheduling an appointment once or twice a year depending on the severity.

CONTACT LENSES

Nowadays, most people prefer to wear contacts instead of glasses. If you are interested in contact lenses, please let your eye doctor know prior to your appointment. During your exam, we will discuss the various contact lenses available and determine the best option based on your individual needs and lifestyle.

PEDIATRIC EYE EXAMS

The importance of regular eye exams cannot be overstated. This is the only way that we can monitor your child’s eyes and vision to prevent them from developing more severe problems down the road. We recommend scheduling an appointment once or twice a year depending on the severity.

DIABETIC RETINOPATHY

Diabetic retinopathy causes problems with your retina, the part of your eye responsible for transferring visual information to your brain for processing. Diabetic retinopathy can cause blood vessels in the retina to leak fluid or bleed, resulting in distorted vision.

Symptoms
  • Spots or dark strings floating in your vision (floaters)
  • Blurred vision.
  • Fluctuating vision.
  • Dark or empty areas in your vision.
  • Vision loss.

MACULAR DEGENERATION

Macular degeneration is a deterioration of the central portion of the retina, the inside layer of the eye that records the images we see and sends them through the optic nerve from the eye to the brain for processing. The macula, or the center of the retina, is responsible for focusing central vision in the eye and controls our ability to see and process information.

CATARACTS

Cataracts cause a clouding of the lens in the eye, making your vision appear to be foggy. For people who have cataracts, seeing through cloudy lenses is a bit like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. Cataracts are the most common cause of vision loss in people over 40 and are the leading cause of blindness in the world.

GLAUCOMA

Glaucoma occurs from damage to the eye’s optic nerve and can often lead to loss of vision and blindness. To detect glaucoma, our highly trained doctors will perform a proper screening to determine severity, examine the damage, and help you manage your glaucoma.

COMPUTER VISION

Computer Vision is a relatively new term within the optometry field and refers to eye problems associated with the prolonged use of computers and electronics that utilize a digital screen. Although it can be temporary, there are times when computer vision can strain the eyes to a degree that permanently affects your vision as well.

HYPEROPIA

Farsightedness, known as hyperopia, makes it difficult to see objects close by. If you are experiencing farsightedness, corrective lenses such as glasses or contact lenses will be prescribed. After a thorough examination, we will determine the prescription that’s best for you.

MYOPIA CONTROL

Nearsightedness, known as myopia, makes it difficult to see objects from afar. If you are experiencing nearsightedness, corrective lenses such as glasses or contact lenses will be prescribed. After a thorough examination, we will determine the prescription that’s best for you.

LASIK

LASIK stands for laser in-situ keratomileusis and is a popular surgery to correct vision problems. LASIK can help people who are nearsighted or farsighted, as well those who have astigmatism.

To determine whether you are a candidate for LASIK, our highly trained Doctors will examine your eyes. Here is what will be done:

  • The overall health of your eyes will be checked.
  • Measurements of your cornea will be taken.
  • Your pupil size will be checked.
  • Your refractive error will be measured.

DIABETIC EYE CARE

While it’s true that the primary symptom of diabetes is high blood sugar (hyperglycemia), it can lead to many other problems throughout the body, including wreaking havoc on your eyes. Some of the most common eye conditions caused by hyperglycemia are cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy, which occurs when the tiny blood vessels in your eyes become damaged by the high blood sugar levels over time.

DRY EYE

Eyecrafters Optical is proud to offer dry eye treatment for our patients. Ocular Surface Disease, also known as dry eye, can occur from certain medications, naturally by aging, or as a symptom arising from systemic diseases such as Sjogren’s syndrome, Rheumatoid arthritis, or Lupus. If you have a minor case of dry eye, you may be experiencing irritation, excessive tearing, fluctuating vision, and/or a burning sensation in your eyes.

BLEPHARITIS

Blepharitis is a common eye condition that makes your eyelids red, swollen, irritated, and itchy. It can cause crusty dandruff-like flakes on your eyelashes. Blepharitis can be uncomfortable. But it isn’t contagious, and it usually doesn’t cause any lasting damage to your eyes.

Our highly trained Doctors can either carefully examine your eyelids using a magnifying instrument or take a sample of the oil or crust on your eyelid.

HYPERTENSIVE RETINOPATHY

Hypertensive retinopathy is retinal vascular damage caused by hypertension. Signs usually develop late in the disease. Funduscopic examination shows arteriolar constriction, arteriovenous nicking, vascular wall changes, flame-shaped hemorrhages, cotton-wool spots, yellow hard exudates, and optic disk edema.

DMV EYE EXAM

The DMV eye test for New York drivers is a mandatory vision test to determine your visual acuity, which affects your ability to see from different lengths or in different lighting conditions, discern subtle movements, distinguish between colors and lights, and more.
How It Works:

  • The vision testing takes only a few minutes
  • We need information off your current license so be sure to bring it along.
  • If you cannot pass the visual acuity test that NY State requires, you can schedule an appointment with the optometrist to get a prescription and eyeglasses or contact lenses

We are enrolled in the DMV Online Vision Registry, which means we can submit your results electronically so that you don’t have to bring or mail files to the DMV.
